Last night, I was awarded a Golden Guitar by Vancouver city mayor Gregor Robertson and Jim Cuddy (from Blue Rodeo) after being honored with the top spot in the Shore 104FM's Sounds of Summer Song Search contest! I've spent the better part of today trying to put it into words. Floored. Excited. Gratified. Validated.
It was totally surreal - the annoucement we'd all been waiting for was delayed by sudden thundershowers, the suspense building backstage with my fellow song-search contestants as we shared umbrellas, stories, and jokes about who might be getting lucky...er, taking home the honours of song-search winner.
My sincere appreciation to the hard-working folks at the Shore 104FM for their incredible support, to you dear readers for listening/voting/sending so much love, and to my fellow song-search-ers for being such a talented group of genuine artists. I highly reccommend checking out each of them:
So where to go from here? There's the Golden Guitar (it's not actually made of gold, in case you were wondering), and several other very exciting prizes, but all I can say right now is that I'm going to keep working on the kind of songwriting that got me to this point - using these prizes to make more great music to share with you.
